APPS WE LOVE
Motra

Record your workouts automatically on your Apple Watch.

Rather than fumbling with your iPhone or a notebook while you’re working out, let Motra track your weightlifting and bodyweight exercises. Its AI-powered auto-detection can identify nearly 500 moves and log the number of reps to create a complete record of your workout.

What we love: The way it seamlessly picks up on whichever exercise we do – lunges, biceps curls, push-ups, bench presses – without interrupting our flow, so we can just hit Start Workout on Apple Watch at the beginning of a gym session or home workout, then forget about it till we’re done. It turns all our efforts into easy-to-read charts, so we can easily see our progress over the past week or year, understand which muscles we’ve been neglecting at a glance and even see how our workouts measure up against those of other users.

Get a detailed overview of every exercise at a glance, and use the app’s AI to generate workouts based on your goals.

Quick tip: Tap Generate on the Workout tab to have AI create a personalised plan for you, taking into account your experience level, fitness goals, available time and equipment and recent workout history.

Meet the creator: Toronto-based Motra was founded by Andrew Just, who wanted to create a resistance training app that replicated the simplicity of a running app. “You press once when you start the workout and once when you stop, and the app just kind of fades into the background after that,” Just told the App Store.
