It finally happened. Thanks to a fundamental disagreement about Donald Trump’s budget reconciliation bill, Elon Musk and Trump are having a massive, public falling out. Ever since Musk became the Trump campaign’s No. 1 fan last summer, it has felt as though it was only a matter of time before these two broke up. It’s too much ego in one relationship.
Their feud has been bubbling up for months, but it exploded on Thursday, when both Trump and Musk took to the social-media platforms they own to talk shit. Trump said Musk had gone “CRAZY,” and Musk said he got Trump elected. Trump then floated the idea of revoking Musk’s government contracts, and Musk said that Trump was “in the Epstein files.” It’s getting juicy!
It’s unclear what this means for, say, the future of the republic. In the meantime, people are having a really good time tweeting about the drama. If you don’t laugh, you’ll think too hard about these guys ripping the guts out of the federal government only to wind up in a social-media beef. Or, you’ll be too distraught to laugh, as is the case with Kanye West and Russell Brand, both of whom have expressed shock and distress at two of their top guys going at it. That’s too cursed to really get into, so let’s dive right into some of the best posts about this whole debacle.
