A Letter To The Next POTUS
Panoramio

Dear Mr./Mrs. President,

You don't know me and my opinion doesn't play a huge part in whether you get elected this fall or not, but I'm taking the time to write you this letter anyway. I want you to know that even though I am 19 years old and able to vote, I am uninformed and not looking forward to November 4, in fact I might not even vote at all, but that's besides the point. You may ask me why I am choosing to ignore my constitutional right to vote, and I would answer with three simple words: I am scared. Not of going off on my own and being an 'adult' for a few hours, I am afraid for the fate of our country in the years to come. It might sound strange that I say this, but please let me explain it to you.

I can start off by saying I grew up in a very conservative household. Growing up, I was taught certain things were right and anything different from that, even slightly, was morally wrong. As I got older and started branching out, my friends and I began to share more liberal ideas, which was nothing I was used to. Now as an adult, I am forced to make my own decisions about the way I want my country to be run, and yet I find myself stuck somewhere in-between the old-world views of my parents, and the newer looking-ahead views of my friends. The thing is, I don't know what is right or wrong, I find myself seeing how both sides come to their opinions, but somehow there isn't a box for 'I agree with you both' on the ballot now, is there?

I would like to say that I speak for those kids who have opinions that differ from those of their parents, but are very confused with the way the world is working today. What I want in the 45th President of the United States, is someone who is looking out for my generation, someone who won't go 'trigger happy' at the sight of a problem. What I am looking for is someone who will make the world a better place to live not only for me, but for my family when that time comes around. I want college to be affordable for my kids, and I would love to see better job security for them and myself. I want to be able to go to sleep at night and not have to worry about the state of the world and even going outside the next day. Peace is a simple idea, but in this difficult world it can be almost impossible to achieve.

I obviously don't know a lot about what I am talking about, but I feel like I know at least enough to approach you. As a 19 year old, I should not be afraid of growing up in the world, solely because of the person in charge. I don't know anything about politics, foreign policy, or the economy, but what I do know is I want to live in a better place. All I can ask from you is to keep all of the promises you make (or try your best to do so), not to get caught up in scandals, and to do whatever you can to help ease the minds of the teens and twenty somethings as you continue your campaign into November. We are the future, we will make things happen, but in order to do that, you can't destroy the world while we are unable to fix it. Thank you for your time and I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Sincerely,

The Future of America

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
