In a strange attempt to dispel rumors surrounding his alleged drug use on Donald Trump’s campaign trail, Elon Musk has tweeted out an image of his urinalysis. The screenshot shows negative results for each drug tested, including ketamine and ecstasy, two substances that were mentioned in the New York Times’ investigation into his drug use. He captioned the photo “lol.”
According to the Times, Musk had been doing so much ketamine that it was affecting his bladder, and he also was taking psychedelic mushrooms. The paper reported that his “drug consumption went well beyond occasional use” and that “he traveled with a daily medication box that held about 20 pills, including ones with the markings of the stimulant Adderall, according to a photo of the box and people who have seen it.”
Musk appears to have gotten his test done at Fastest Labs of South Austin on June 11. Its website, according to People, notes that “urine drug tests can detect drugs that have been ingested within the last 2–10 days,” but not further back. To note, Musk’s urine was collected 12 days after the Times published its investigation.
In response, the Times PR account tweeted, “Elon Musk is continuing to lash out because he doesn’t like our reporting. Nothing that he’s said or presented since our article about his drug use during the presidential campaign was published contradicts what we uncovered. We stand by our journalism.”
Musk couldn’t help himself and tweeted, “I literally just posted ‘lol’ and the drug test results. How exactly is that ‘lashing out’?” with two laughing emojis. He then tweeted again and again about the paper, challenging its staff to also take drug tests and poking fun at its app being No. 2 on the charts, one space below X. Definitely not lashing out.
